FPS: NASA Internship Monolith Testing (Ohio)

Internship ID #: GRC1-08-09-AN

Timings: Spring, Summer, Fall

Areas of Study: Aerospace, Aeronautical, Astronautical Engineering, Materials, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics, Chemistry

Location: Glenn Research Center (GRC)

MONOLITH TESTING: Silica aerogels are attractive candidates for unique thermal, optical, catalytic, and chemical applications because of their low density and high mesoporosity. However, their inherent fragility has restricted their use to applications where they are not subject to load. Crosslinking silica aerogels with polymer significantly increases the strength of the aerogel with only a small effect on density or porosity. In addition, at very low densities, the aerogels crosslinked with a di-isocyanate are somewhat flexible. To enhance this property and make the monoliths more robust, synthesis of different formulations using more flexible linkages in the polymer backbone is proposed. Characterization and mechanical testing will be done on the monoliths produced and the properties will be optimized.

We're rad, come work with us. Join a small and dedicated team using media, design, fashion and pop-culture to change lives on both sides of the Atlantic. These internships will be limitless in potential. Passionate people will have the freedom to shape their job and develop their own area of expertise. Falling Whistles began as a simple blog from a young American, traveling deep into the warzone of Congo. He discovered rebels, warlords, child-soldiers and illegal prisons. He also found 2 visionary Congolese artists working to build a movement within their own country. This stylish campaign will connect both worlds and attempt to build a new world in the process. The profits enable art-therapy of war affected kids in Congo while advocating on their behalf. Our workspace is casual but building something from nothing requires a lot. Everything we do will be a team effort. Creativity and innovation, spunk and spontaneity, dedication and passion, and total out of the box thinking will be highly valued. We're rad, come work with us ;) Call Jonathan at 817-602-7654
Hiring Organization: This is an unpaid internship.
