SF Special Events Intern

Have you ever wanted to work on exciting, large-scale events that fundraise for a great cause? Join San Francisco Opera Guild as our Special Events Intern!

As the Special Events Intern, you would be a key component to making so many of our events a success. You will assistant the Special Events team with events that range from a gala celebrating the opening of the Summer Opera Season, to a fun fashion event, to supporting Opera Ball (Winner of Nob Hill Gazette’s Best of 2010 “’Gala’ or Event for Elegance”).

ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO OPERA GUILD
San Francisco Opera Guild’s mission is to provide cultural nourishment to the Northern California community through opera education, outreach programs and special events; as well as to provide financial support to San Francisco Opera Association.

Since 1939 it has succeeded in creating an array of programs that have lifted opera out of the realm of elite society, and into the mainstream of human experience. Money raised each year is used to support Guild education programs and San Francisco Opera.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
This position reports to the Events Manager and Events Assistant Manager. This position is part-time and unpaid. You must be enrolled in school and eligible for school credit.

This internship position is a unique experience to get a behind-the-scenes look at events, auctions, fundraising and non-profits. The dates of the internship are flexible, but candidates must be available the beginning of February and must be available at least 10 hours per week.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Assist the Events Manager and Events Assistant Manager with administrative projects as needed
• Data entry
• Coordinate and update Social Media posts on Facebook and Twitter
• Tracks responses to auction solicitations
• Assists the Events Manager and Events Assistant in the production of Opera Guild events. Examples of events include, but are not limited to: a Couture Fashion Show (Spring), Spring Gala (June), and Opera Opening Gala (September).
• Works in a team environment with the Opera Guild staff, and responds affirmatively to creative direction from same.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Skill in:
• MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Photoshop
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with a meticulous attention to detail
Ability to:
• Communicate in an effective, tactful, courteous and professional manner with a wide variety of people including staff, volunteers, and the general public
• Commit to a high-level of personal organization for her/himself and the staff
• Work as a member of a team, yet be able to take direction when required.
