The California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs funds alcohol and drug treatment and prevention in the state and is seeking a student intern. This is a great opportunity for a communications student to learn public relations and marketing skills while performing meaningful work. Under the direction of the Public Information Officer, the Student Assistant will perform tasks typical of an entry level public relations practitioner. The student will prepare daily news clips for the Department and outside stakeholders and assist the public information officer with the preparation and distribution of news releases, query letters, letters to the editor, fact sheets and talking points. The student assistant will prepare reports and will assist in the development of proclamations and commendations.

The student will assist with the implementation of the strategic plan for the communications office and will assist with special events and projects. The student assistant will participate in executive level meetings and will assist various divisions with their communication efforts.

The applicant should be proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Applicants must possess excellent written and interpersonal communications skills. Experience with graphic design programs such as Publisher is a plus. Student(s) must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester units or 9 quarter units at an accredited college or university
