San Francisco Opera Guild’s mission is to provide cultural nourishment to the Northern California community through opera education, outreach programs and special events; as well as to provide financial support to San Francisco Opera Association.

Since 1939 it has succeeded in creating an array of programs that have lifted opera out of the realm of elite society, and into the mainstream of human experience. The Guild’s Board of Directors oversees the activities of the Guild. Officers are responsible for management of its finances as well its education programs, fundraising and special events. A small professional staff supports the board’s activities. Money raised each year is used to support its education programs and San Francisco Opera.

The Guild’s music education programs enrich students’ lives at a time when budget cuts have removed music from the schools’ curriculums. Students and their teachers in 190 Northern California schools take advantage of two in-school programs, Opera √† la Carte and Sing a Story. In addition, thousands of students attend five final dress rehearsals of San Francisco Opera productions in the War Memorial Opera House.
