About Yoga Journal Conferences:
Yoga Journal Conferences is a department within Yoga Journal Magazine that produces four national yoga events a year. Each event draws 1500-2000 participants and yoga instructors from around the globe. The conferences feature entertainment, community networking opportunities, and a Yoga Marketplace for the latest yoga gear and healthy living products.
About the position:
As an intern in our San Francisco office, you will be an integral part of the conference team, assisting in both the day-to-day preparations for our events and also the long range marketing/promotions of the conferences. In addition to the specific responsibilities listed below, the intern is expected to assist in all aspects of staff support, administrative duties, and also to contribute to staff meetings and help prepare for Conference Marketing meetings. The internship position is unpaid, part time (approximately 15-20 hours per week), and only available to current students.
Qualifications:
Working towards undergraduate degree – must be eligible for internship college credit
Excellent writing and communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are a must
Professional phone manners
Computer literate and Internet savvy
Experienced user of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Team-oriented with strong sense of humor
Committed to gaining experience in the Marketing/PR field
Interest in yoga not required, but a plus
Responsibilities:
Public relations
Compile and update media list – advertising outlets & pr targets
Draft press releases & pitch to local media; opportunity to learn from Yoga Journal Magazine’s in-house PR team
Generate coverage reports
Research/media hunt for newsworthy information about the yoga market, our event sponsors and their competitors.
Web
Research untapped online marketing opportunities and present to team
Examine social network marketing, possibility of blogging about events
Locate online advertising/marketing partnerships/trades
Updating & proofing the conference website
Writing/Copyediting
Assist with copyediting of conference promotional materials.
Assist with transfer of materials between conference team and outside designers.
Post-Event Tracking
Maintain & update conference demographic reports
Assist in generating conference summary reports for sponsors
Update the Mailing list
Administrative and Research:
Organize and categorize conference photography for use in promotional materials.
Research potential new advertisers/vendors and maintain list of past advertisers.
Research potential photographers in new markets.
Label printing, packet stuffing, brochure mailing, copying and other administrative tasks as needed.
Assist with coordinating printings (conference collateral, t-shirts, etc)
