Rights and Marketing Intern

Insight Editiions, and award-winning books publisher, has an immediate opening for a full-time a rights and marketing intern.

Rights and Marketing Intern – The Right and Marketing Intern, will report to the Rights and Marketing Manager. Their primary responsibilities will be to assist in general marketing and international rights efforts, update marketing databases, and execute direct marketing campaigns. The Sales and Marketing Intern will learn how the book trade works, how international rights trade works, and experience electronic book and iPad publishing first hand.


• Sales Mailings – New title and backlist promotions to direct account database by imprint. Update new accounts with new materials and work in SalesForce.
• PR Mailings – Executing mailings of press release and media list for publicity. Mailings and publicity campaigns happen on a weekly basis.
• Author and Promotion events– Assist in organizing book signing and marketing preparation for trade shows.
• Sales Kit Assembly – Assemble sales kits with materials provided by marketing including: product features, pitch letters, and projections.
• Rights Mailings – Execute mailing of Rights Sales Kit, as well as ship publisher samples.
• Customer Database Updates – Update customer databases for all imprints in Filemaker on a weekly. Includes websites and individual submissions.
• Websites – Update product, promotions, and event information websites upon request (in content management system, no html or php knowledge required)
• Research – Assemble basic marketing research data on direct accounts and publicity targets.
• E-Books – Train and familiarize oneself with the Constellation digital distribution program and learn how to generate and distribute Epub files.

Insight Editions is a casual working environment (we have dogs in the office). This is a paid intern position. Please note that the fall-holiday season is the busiest time of year, so if you’re not prepared for a very active office environment this may not be the position for you—think The New York Inquirer office floor in Citizen Kane.

Required Skills and Experience:

•You are a Junior or Senior majoring in communications, media, journalism, marketing, PR, or a related field.
•You love the internet and love engaging and interacting with people in social networks (Twitter, Friendfeed, Facebook, YouTube, etc.).
•You are a good writer.
•You are interested in mobile products and technology.
•You are intellectually curious and creative.
•You are able to meet deadlines.
•You have a blog and are up to speed on how to use social networks to promote your blog.
•You know how to edit videos.
•You have a positive attitude and are enthusiastic.
•Knowledge of HTML a plus
•Knowledge of 3rd party Facebook applications (e.g.Wildfire) a plus

This is a part-time position (11/11/10-11/24/10) that will support key client projects.


• Accountable for the quality of all deliverables and performance throughout the duration of the engagement.
• Collaborates with Producer and coordinators on overall process
• Asset management and tracking
• Shipping, copying, and binding
• Supports the project plan, ensuring that all deliverable dates are met.


• 1+ years experience managing experiential and event production projects within a marketing or communications environment. Particularly interested in experience tying business strategy to experiential events.
• Skills include:
o Demonstrated knowledge of event production.
o The ability to handle numerous tasks simultaneously with excellent organizational skills, while self-managing priorities and commitments is essential.
o Knowledge of Excel is a must and daily use of Mircosoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint,MS Project, HTML and Visio
o Ability to pro-actively anticipate obstacles and create solutions.
o Must possess a strong work ethic, thrive in a fast-paced dynamic work environment, (this is not a 9 to 5 job), and hopefully have a sense of humor.
