Fiber Polymer Processing (Full Time Position)

Ethicon, Inc., a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Staff Engineer - Polymer Processing, located in Somerville, NJ.

Ethicon, Inc.- Develops and markets products within three divisions: Ethicon Products Worldwide for wound closure and tissue repair; Johnson & Johnson Wound Management with biosurgical technologies to manage intra-operative bleeding and postoperative leaking, as well as advanced wound care products; and Ethicon Women's Health & Urology with minimally invasive gynecological and urological solutions in stress urinary incontinence, pelvic floor repair and uterine disorders.

The Staff Engineer - Polymer Processing will conduct research toward new product development or existing product improvement. Contribute inventions, new design or techniques to solve technical problems or improve existing products or processes.Will lead and function as a contributing member of multidisciplinary project teams in the design, development, and manufacturing of the surgical sutures, surgical devices, and related products and processes. Act as a leader or as a contributing member of project teams in the development and manufacturing of the medical devices. Provide technical support to manufacturing and marketing. Support project teams on selecting materials for medical device design. Interact with customers to understand the unmet needs. Will incorporate manufacturability into new product development. Interact with outside vendors, consultants and academia.

Qualifications

An MS or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Bio Medical Engineering or allied field is an asset
5+ years of experience in an industrial environment as a technical leader and/or project leader an asset
Adept, hands-on experimentalist background with extensive experience in polymer processing, including extrusion, fiber spinning and associated down stream processes of crystalline resins is an asset.
Strong background in polymer physics, with good understanding of material characterization, structure-property and utilization towards application development is an asset.
Will need the ability to work in a team-oriented environment that embraces change, risk, and flexibility and must be capable of handling multiple projects/tasks at the same time.
A demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team as well as the ability to listen to customers' needs and develop solutions to meet their requirements.
Experience in medical devices product/process development is an asset.
Experience in bioabsorbable polymers and polymer processing technology is an asset. Knowledge of medical devices regulations is an asset.
Knowledge of Design/Process Excellence (Six Sigma) is an asset.
