SUMMARY Establishes, plans, and administers the overall direction and goals for the Point-of-Sale department of Creative Services. Analyzes the needs of departments and establishes priorities. Responsible for the creative output of in-store programming, advertising, sales and marketing materials, and brand communication for assigned brands. Directs and oversees the creative team and creative processes; the ideation, presentation and execution of client branding and marketing communications campaigns; the accountability and creative quality of client projects, and the operational readiness of the creative team, all in fulfillment of the brand promise to our clients. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Design Functions • Reviews and judges design, composition, typography, copy content and layout for overall effectiveness and ensures consistency with brand equities and program needs. • Takes part in brand briefings and effectively accepts, challenges, and offers alternate recommendations of execution based on brand strategy. • Ensures that a high quality of creative and production is upheld, maintaining consistently high standards for self and others on the team. • Studies the creative marketplace, assessing where work stands against competitors’ and our clients’ competitors’ creative work. Client Functions • Listens, asks, prioritizes and translates client situation, marketing goals and information into strategic brand concepts, voice, messages and rationales. • Writes and presents cohesive and persuasive rationales for campaign approaches. • Works collaboratively with partners, participates in company strategizing, and makes recommendations for changes to the creative function to meet market changes or to support strategic plans. • Collaborates with the account lead to ensure that internal and client presentations are on time, professional, engaging, persuasive and supported by a sound rationale. Financial Functions • Works with the account lead to manage project deliverables and ensure adherence to budget restrictions. • Manages staff T&E, training and general expenditures within budgeted allowance. • Manages contract work to adhere to budget allowance. Personnel Functions • Collaborates with the other creative directors to set expectations and standards (build a culture) for creative team attitude, behavior, teamwork and professional development. Leads accordingly. • Utilizes experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and develop talent of design staff. • Develops a successful vision/strategy, through strong leadership skills. • Develops and approves changes to systems, policies, and procedures. • Participates in department and interdepartmental planning and management teams and works cross-functionally to improve processes within the organization. • Identifies and obtains staff capabilities needed to accomplish objectives. • Oversees projects that have short to long term focus. • Directs the development and implementation of standards and goals, ensuring they support the organization's business plans. • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES • Develops, coaches and mentors subordinate staff. Conducts performance evaluations; recommends salary adjustments; rewards employees or takes disciplinary action, as necessary; addresses complaints and resolves issues. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree (BFA) in Graphic Design plus 10 years of experience in graphic design agency or in-house experience to include 4 years of prior supervisory experience and experience leading and directing the creative work of others, keeping to timeline, budget and on strategic brief. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience with reading, analyzing, and interpreting the most complex documents. Experience with responding effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Experience with writing speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Experience with making effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and boards of directors. • Experience with applying a wide degree of creativity and innovation in the concept ideation process and in development. • Experience with managing outside resources, including vendors, photographers, illustrators, printers, freelancers, web and interactive sub-contractors. • Thorough understanding and managing art direction, design, copywriting and production of projects. 2D and 3D conceptual understanding of elements. • Experience with learning, evaluating and implementing new marketing technologies. • Superior leadership, collaboration, problem solving and decision-making skills. • Excellence in managing and motivating staff. • Excellent communication, presentation and persuasion skills. • Superior understanding of advertising and marketing principles. • Demonstrated talent for high-caliber creative concept development and writing. • Experience with judging creative concepts and copy, and clearly communicating creative direction to others. • Thorough understanding of the wine/spirits business/industry. • Excellent communication, planning, time-management and follow-through skills • Thorough knowledge of Adobe CS 4 Suite – Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign. • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. • Experience working with all levels and functions within the Company.
