Assistant Patternmaker Intern (New York)

Description: New high end clothing collection is seeking Patternmaker intern. Career/long-term opportunity for the right candidates. We need creative individuals who are passionate and meticulous about their work. Detail oriented, multi-tasking abilities are essential. Will be working closely with Designer/CEO to develop and maintain brand fit and styling.

Qualified candidates will have 2-3+ years experience; college coursework, or industry related is applicable. Candidates must have moderate to extensive understanding of draping, garment construction, sewing, pattern manipulation, and various fabric behaviors. We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, individual who will take designers sketches from slopers or first pattern through revisions and to final grading. You must be a creative problem solver and an upbeat team player. Must be able to work under deadlines and follow through to completion.

Summary of Duties:

  • Work together with Designer/CEO and Assistant Designers
  • Must be able to interpret designer sketches using flat pattern, draping, and or computer patternmaking software
  • Make first pattern through to production
  • Manage workload and priorities according to schedule
  • Responsible for fitting live model and making all necessary changes on patterns

Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergrad or Bachelors Degree in Apparel/Fashion related field, or industry related experience.
  • Must be computer literate and have working or capability to learn computerized pattern making system
  • Successful implementation of various fabrics
  • Knowledge of garment construction, costing of garments, and draping
  • Thorough understanding of the apparel design & development process from inception through production
  • Working knowledge of garment fit and the ability to instruct a sample maker on necessary changes to a pattern to influence the fit
  • Marker making experience helpful
