Art Gallery Internship (San Francisco)

Established fine art gallery a block away from San Francisco’s Union Square seeks a part-time gallery intern to start immediately with the option of continuing through the spring months if it's a good fit.

About us:
Micaëla Gallery represents a diverse group of emerging and established fine artists, mostly from the San Francisco Bay Area, and enjoys a reputation for excellence. Micaëla Gallery is a regular participant at SOFA Chicago (2007, 2008), the fairs at Art Basel|Miami (2007, 2008), and brought its newest avant-garde artists to the Bridge Art Fair during the NY Armory show in 2008.

We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented individual with an art history or arts management background. Duties range from administrative tasks (office organization, filing, answering phones, other projects), interaction w/ the public, and assisting preparations for art fairs, exhibitions, openings and receptions. The ideal intern will be responsible, punctual, very organized, patient, have extraordinary attention to detail, and be able to work independently.

Interns should be interested in working in a professional fine gallery environment, possess strong communications skills (in person + on the phone), and have basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Entourage). Basic Photoshop/Illustrator/FileMaker experience is highly desirable. Candidates must be able to commit at least 8 hours twice a week for 3 months minimum.

To apply, please email a letter of introduction (including a statement of interest) and resume to jobs@micaela.com, and note our internship on the subject line.

Please contact via email only and do not telephone with inquiries. We will reply to all emails, applications and questions. Please make sure your introductory letter and resume are posted WITHIN the body of your email (NO ATTACHMENTS will be accepted).

Compensation:
Please note, this is not a paid position. Micaëla Gallery's internship program is structured to coordinate applicants' interest, backgrounds and schedules with the needs of our gallery. While we cannot offer paid internships, we offer a behind the scenes experience in a culturally enriched neighborhood at a professional fine art gallery, an occasional opportunity to travel and attend art fairs, along with a chance to work with artists and arts professionals, in exchange for your valuable time and talent. The internship provides a thorough opportunity to learn about and participate in the daily business of a contemporary fine art gallery. College credit may be available.
