Brooklyn-based artist & designer is seeking a part time intern for 2-3 days a week over a 3 month period this summer. You will assist in all aspects of the work and the business as we create our first collection of womenswear to show at NY Fashion Week. This is an unpaid internship.
Tasks/Requirements:
- patternmaking and draping knowledge/skill
- ability to cut and construct muslins as well as final garments
- some fine hand-sewing and finishing work
- basic Photoshop knowledge/skill
- an understanding of print repeats/layouts - screenprinting experience is a plus
- an understanding of beadwork/embroidery layouts
- knitting and crocheting experience is a plus
- creation of basic spreadsheets
- run errands in the garment district and elsewhere
- shipping packages
- office & studio organization
- neatness, precision, attention to detail
- must professionally represent the business when dealing with models, photographers, vendors, etc.
- discretion and privacy in all areas of the work/business is a must - please consider this when applying
What You Will Gain:
You will have the opportunity to see this designer and company develop from a grassroots level. You will work closely with the designer on a daily basis. You will gain experience working with NYC vendors, seamstresses, models and more. This internship will give back what you put in.
