Our internship offering is “non-paying” for trade school or university credit. We are an independent multi-line sales and marketing organization for fashion companies who want to market their products through retail distribution worldwide. Working with us will give you the professional experience required for an entry level position either corporately or in an independent showroom in the fashion business. Shay California is one of the lines that we represent.
So what do we do exactly? We are independent sales and marketing representatives for contemporary clothing manufacturers whom don’t have their own in-house sales’ departments. We source the fashion market for contemporary designers that we believe have the products that our customer base of women’s clothing stores will want to sell in their stores. Our marketing territory comprises the 13 Western States and we have over 400 accounts. In order to be successful in this business you will need to have experience and a customer base; product knowledge, merchandising skills; and, be able to determine marketing and sales strategies. We market these clothes either out of our showroom, trade shows or by visiting the buyer or owner at their buying offices or stores.
You will help to keep us in touch with our customers by updating our database, providing customer service, merchandising our product lines for sales presentations. You will help us in finding the best stores for our products. You will help us to keep in touch with our vendors about their products, deliveries, providing feedback on what is selling, and help in having them produce a sellable product for the best stores that we have found for them. You will help us develop better, more efficient ways of selling and marketing.
You will need to be an individual who is sales oriented and has an outgoing personality, self motivated, conscientious and has good communication skills; and, enjoys working with people. You will need to be someone who is not afraid to make mistakes and is challenged to be successful. You will need to be dependable and very, very organized. You will need to have good phone and computer skills especially with MS Excel. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and web design is a plus. And yes, it doesn’t hurt to look good and dress fashionably!
Our showroom is open from Monday to Friday from 10AM to 5:00PM and is located at the California Market Center, 110 E 9th ST, STE B579, Los Angeles, CA 90079 in the heart of the Fashion District. Please go to their web site for information about our trade center. We do work on the weekends sometimes when there is a trade show. Our internship is a minimum of 6 weeks, 8 weeks is better as it will just make you better prepared for your next level. This is a hand’s on challenging position for the very serious candidate!
After reading this and you’re still interested in interning with us, we look forward to receiving your resume and a recent photo–nothing too glamorous. We need to have an idea how you will look in our showroom samples.
We realize that many of you will be coming from out of state. Living expenses are going to be an integral part of your decision to come here. We recommend that you try to find something close to our address. Many interns have been able to find housing by searching on Facebook for an apartment to share. You may also Facebook Stephanie Giddens who is currently interning with us from Auburn University. Check our Shay California on Facebook.
We always have positions available so it is important to let us know when exactly you can intern and what you will need from us if you are doing this for college credit. I can assure you that if you do join our team, you will learn what it is going to take to be successful in this business.
Again, thank you for your time and consideration.Shay-Costello, Inc.
