Interior/Textile Design Internship (LA)
This position is an unpaid internship with school credit, free lunches, and resume building as compensation. Any work related expense including mileage for errands will be reimbursed. There is the possibility of this turning into a part-time paid position for the right person.
Candidates MUST have the following skills: highly organized and detailed, GREAT listening skills and the ability to follow directions, proactively work independently, interest in the world of design, and have their own car.
Duties include, but are not limited to: merchandising of the showroom, organizing swatch and inventory library, filing, running errands, placing and tracking orders and samples, following up with clients, installation of products at clients' homes, creating look books and reference materials, , assisting on project direction, and sketch/spec sheet drawings of custom designs. Please note: light lifting is sometimes required (linens, towels, not manual labor).

This is a part time position, starting at two days a week, with potential for growth for the right candidate. This is the perfect scenario for an interior design student looking to gain hands on experience in the design industry.

Job Responsibilities will include:

The Art Farm has an exciting Interior Design Internship program running in 2010. This will not be your average internship, you will not be photocopying documents, cutting small pieces of paper for design boards, or making boring phone calls to suppliers. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get involved in an exciting artistic design, renovation & restoration project in an amazing setting in the South of France. The Art Farm's physical location is made up of two beautiful 250 year old French farmhouses being restored using creative methods, natural materials and fun, motivated, fast paced work ethics. 2010 presents the opportunity to design 6 artistic holiday suites in farmhouse two. The opportunity is open to 6 designers, with the task of designing 1 suite in 1 month each. You will be given an artistic theme, general brief, budget and a small team of builders to work with to bring the design from concept to completion. This opportunity will give you a unique head start in the industry, an opportunity that some of the best highly experienced designers may never get. The design freedom, the location, the inspiring team and innovative methods will be like nothing else. Over the one month you will present concepts, auto cad or hand drawn room designs, furniture designs, budgets and schedules and experience team management, natural building, furniture building, hunt for antiques at the French markets and antique restorations, all of with the assistance from the Art Farm team. Facilitator - Your facilitator will be Kate Marsh of the Art Farm team. Kate has worked in the Interior Design industry for 6 years with a portfolio of residential and commercial design and a broad range of experience ranging from luxury homes in Australia to the Dubai hospital. Over the last year she has taken on The Art Farm project and found it to be one of the most exciting building projects she has ever worked on. 2010 will be a huge year for the project and you have the opportunity to join her team. Accommodation - During the one month you will have the opportunity to stay onsite at the Art Farm in our dorm room accommodation. You will also be able to get involved in any other Art Farm projects or celebrations that are happening, with regular music and art session and parties it will be an exciting time to join us. We are an interior design firm specializing in residential interiors. With projects in New York, Los Angeles, Hawaii, the Rocky Mountains, and the San Francisco Bay Area, we offer a high level of professionalism and diverse skills developed over years of dedication to residential interior design.
We are seeking a Library Intern to work directly with the Resources Manager in our extensive in-house materials library. The intern will interact on many levels of project materials sourcing and design support. The intern will gain fluency with materials specification and also gain design assisting experience in a diverse project base.
This position is ideal for a student currently enrolled in an undergraduate interior design program, and can be tailored for credit in an undergraduate interior design degree program.
Responsibilities will include:
Library Maintenance
Preparation of Presentation materials
Design Support (fabric reserves, expediting as workload allows)
P/U and Delivery of Memo Samples and merchandise
Office support (phones, filing)
Project Archiving
